These are placed around a circle to form a BaGua Diagram. There are two different arrangements as shown below.
: Earlier Heaven, or Primal Arrangement [Fu Xi]
East (Spring)
West (Autumn)
North
Winter
:Later Heaven, or Inner World Arrangement [King Wen]
West(Autumn)
Note 1: Traditionally all Chinese maps are drawn with the direction South at the top of page. This differs from the modern practice of placing the direction North at the top of page. See this for example.
Note 2: Symbol 2 and Symbol 4 are similar, but one is upside down of the other.
Symbol 6 and Symbol 8 are similar, but one is upside down of the other.
To use Bagua properly, rotate Bagua until the Symbol come to the topmost position.
For example, rotate the Later Bagua clockwise 45 degrees, Symbol 6 should come to
the top. If this does not occur, then the Bagua is incorrectly constructed.
Many Internet sites show incorrect Bagua diagrams. So beware.
