Our recommendation is to:
Forget the rest of this page, and Go to Step 2.

But if you want more details, then read on.

The latest version of Microsoft browser IE5 can read English, Chinese as well as other languages without changing browsers. Just download the Chinese language fonts -one for traditional (fanti, or BIG5 code) and one for simplified (Jianti or GB2312 code).

The latest (July 2000) browser is called IE5.5 (Internet Explorer Version 5.5). If you are using an older version of Microsoft browser, or if you are using Netscape browser , the easiest way is to (a) first update to IE5 standard U.S. edition, and then (b) add Chinese font.

(Step 0) If you are sure whether you have Internet Explorer 5 or not, follow detail instruction by click here. Or, manually type http://www.chinapage.com/faq00.html

If you have versions older than 5, you must do Step 1a and 1b.

(Step 1a) Down load Internet Explorer 5.5 and Internet Tools

Since you do not have Internet Explorer, or only have an older version of Internet Explorer, you must download a copy now.

To download or order a CD, Click here.

Or, manually type http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/download/ie55.htm

Follow the instruction, and install IE55. Run some tests to be sure it is working properly. At this point, you still do not have Chinese fonts yet.

(Step 1b) Get Chinese font.
You can download Chinese fonts from Micosoft.
Click here. It is called Global IME.

Or,

Use IE5 to browse a webpage which uses Chinese fonts. When IE5 detects that fact Chinese fonts are needed, it will inform you of the fact, and ask you if you would like to download the Chinese font? Clcik "yes", and follow the instruction of download the Chinese font.

The process is simple and quite easy.

For simplified GB code, click for this test page.
Or, manually type http://www.chinapage.com/font/gbtext.html

For traditional BIG5 code, click for this test page.
Or, manually type http://www.chinapage.com/font/big5text.html

(Thnaks to Peng Lei for this idea.)
(Note: Microsoft often changes their links. If the links are broken, kindly let me know and mention the name of this webpage.)

Step 1 is complete. You must go to Step 2 and tell the browser to use Chinese font!
