Huangshan Mountain opens
There's a place in east China's Anhui Province celebrated by artists for centuries. At scenic Huangshan Mountain the people are celebrating the return of the Shixin Apex. The legendary site, featured in thousands of paintings, was restored to full health and verdancy,during a four year closure. Now it's open once again.
The Shixin Apex is green once more. During the 1970's, plant cover plummeted to half of what had been during its peak years.
The eco-system there was dying. Local people began a determined effort to replant and reforest this national treasure.
Four years later vegetation has turned lush. Plant cover is restored to 93 per cent of the sites potential. The eco system is recovering and the scenic site is more beautiful than it has been in decades.
The strategy of closing down the scenic site temporarily on a regular basis, now is adopted as a principal conservation measure. During periods of closure, ecologists, will work to maintain the balance and bio-diversity of the system.
The Shixin Apex is on the north of the Huangshan Mountain. Over the centuries its dramatic and precipitate terrain and breathtaking vistas have inspired poetry and art, dating back to the most ancient times.
