Qiu Ying [Chiu Yin] - Ming Dynasty Painter

Qiu Ying(1500-1560), styled Shifu and Shizhou, was born at Taicang, near Shanghai. He was one of the "Four Masters of Ming Painting". He started life as a craftsman and later took lessons in painting from Zhou Chen. He also studied and made copies of the masterpieces of Tang and Song and his copies, it was said,were hardly distinguishable from the originals. His speciality was figure painting especially of women, but he was also good at doing flowers, birds and landscapes.He could paint well in colours and in ink and wash, and is also credited with some fine sketches in black and white.
