The "Jiu Quan Space Center" is the principal launching site for China's space rockets and satellites. It is located
in the Gobi Desert in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region [Nei Monggu].
However, it is named after the nearest town of Jiu Quan, which is
in the Gansu Province.
The last satellite Shenzhou 4 was lauched from here. The next satellite Shenzhou 5, which will carry one or possibly more astronaut, will be launched from here in October 2003. |
