News Reports about Manned Space Flight: Shen Zhou 5

Location of the Space Center

The "Jiu Quan Space Center" is the principal launching site for China's space rockets and satellites. It is located in the Gobi Desert in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region [Nei Monggu]. However, it is named after the nearest town of Jiu Quan, which is in the Gansu Province.

The last satellite Shenzhou 4 was lauched from here. The next satellite Shenzhou 5, which will carry one or possibly more astronaut, will be launched from here in October 2003.
